UCA PROJECTED Class List 2019-2020
9th - 12th grade

MATH
Saxon Algebra I (Tuesday - Mr. Counts)
This class will use Saxon Algebra I curriculum, third edition.  It is intended for high school students who are ready to begin Algebra.  

Geometry (with Trigonometry)(Tuesday - Mr. Counts)
​This class is designed for students who have progressed at least beyond Algebra I. The anticipated curriculum for this class is ACE Geometry, 11 PACEs worth, as well as one PACE worth of Trigonometry.

SCIENCE
Biology I (Tuesday - Mr. Lilly)
This class is geared towards 8th and 9th grade students. It is intended to tackle Biology I on a level that will satisfy a high school credit for science. The curriculum for this class is expected to be Apologia, and will include class time as well as lab time.


Biology II - Human Anatomy (Tuesday - Mr. Lilly)
This class is designed for 10th,11th, and 12th grade students.  It is geared towards earning a high school credit in science for Biology II. The curriculum for this class is expected to be Apologia, and will include class time as well as lab time. 


SOCIAL STUDIES
World History (9-11) (Tuesday - Mr. Chandler)
This class is a high school level World History class using Bob Jones curriculum. The curriculum covers material beginning with the ancient Greek and Roman eras and moving up until modern times. It is intended to earn a high school level Social Studies credit upon completion.

Civics/Economics (11-12) (Tuesday - Mr. Counts)
Students taking this class will actual complete two courses over the two semesters.  Before Christmas break, students will go through Bob Jones' Economics curriculum which will ear 1/2 credit in Social Studies.  After the Christmas break, the study will shift to American Government (sometimes referred to as "Civics") and we will use the ACE American Government curriculum.  The Civics course will also earn 1/2 credit in Social Studies upon its completion.  


ENGLISH 
8th - 9th grade English (Tuesday - The Pinzurs)
This class is designed to meet the needs of our 8th and 9th grade students and prepare them for the rigors of upper level English, specifically in writing.  Art and Juanita Pinzur are well established in the field of English and are looking forward to working with our young students with the IEW writing program.

10th-12th grade English (Tuesday - Mr. Chandler)
This class will be geared towards students in the 10th through 12th grade level and is intended to earn a high school English credit.


LANGUAGES
Sign Language II (Tuesday - Kelly Snow)
We are excited to offer Sign Language II this year as a second year foreign language opportunity.  (Many schools will accept Sign Language as a Foreign Language credit including Aaron Academy, but please check with your umbrella for their specific requirements.)  Kelly will use a high school curriculum designed to prepare your student to interpret for the deaf and hearing impaired.  Also, students in this class will be encouraged to enter the sign language event at Regional Student Convention. This is a second year study and students will need to have had a beginner course before taking this course.


ELECTIVES
Varsity Choir (Thursday)
[must be 13 years old by Jan. 1, 2018]
This class meets once weekly to practice for several performance dates throughout the year.  Performances include a Christmas special, several springtime events at local churches, and competition at the ACE Regional Student Convention.  Also, the students participate in several ministering events in the springtime as well.

Drama (Thursday)
[must be 13 years old by Jan. 1, 2018]
This class is designed to prepare students for solo and group dramatic performances to be used in competition at the ACE Regional Student Convention. 

ACT Prep (Thursday)
This is a class designed to prepare students for the rigors of taking the ACT.  We plan to go through all of the practice tests in the official ACT prep course.

Computers Applications
(Thursday - Roger Morris)
This course is designed to give high school students a more in depth look into the use of applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and other graphic design software. New students and former computing students are welcome to join for this new approach.

Yearbook Committee (Thursday - Mr. Counts)
Yearbook Committee is designed for 11th and 12th graders. This class is charged with the task of creating the annual school yearbook sold at the end of the year.  This class is directly responsible for creatively designing the pages, learning to become proficient in Corel Draw printing software and Adobe Photoshop, and taking and selecting the photographs used for the yearbook.  This will be a one semester course, although the timeline for classes will run from roughly October to March.

Convention Level Art I (Thursday - Brei Pinzur)
[must be 13 years old by Jan. 1, 2018]
This class is designed to teach Art at a high school level and is useful for students wanted to pursue better understanding of art and/or develop skills for art at convention.  The class is not designed to specifically provide convention art, but rather to train students in the skill sets necessary to improve their art. This is for first year art students.

Convention Level Art II (Thursday - Brei Pinzur)
Mrs. Brei is offering a more advanced course this year or students who have been able to go through Convention Art I. She intends to take them through more advanced studies than what they would have learned in the first class.

Personal Finance (Thursdays)
This class is being planned for 1 semester only and is intended to fulfill the obligation that most umbrella schools have of taking at least one course in personal finance before graduating.

Sewing (Thursdays - Mrs. Urick)
We are excited that Mrs. Urick has offered to share her skill of sewing with our 13 year old and up group.  This class will likely be broken down into one semester chunks, but may continue for both semesters.

5th - 8th grade

MATH 
Saxon 7/6 (Mr. Counts)
This class will use Saxon Math 7/6 third edition curriculum and is designed for students entering the 7th grade or 6th grade if they are prepared for math at that level. This class prepares students to be able to develop the concepts working towards Pre-Algebra.

Saxon Pre-Algebra (Tuesday - Mr. Counts)
This class will use the Saxon Algebra ½ curriculum, third edition.  It is intended for 8th graders who are ready for an introduction into Algebraic studies.  There is no prerequisite for this class.

This class is geared towards 8th and 9th grade students. It is intended to tackle Biology I on a level that will satisfy a high school credit for science. The curriculum for this class expected be Apologia, and will include class time as well as lab time.

Middle School Science (Thursday - Mrs. Chandler)
This class will be intended for our 5th through 7th graders on Thursday mornings. It can be taken as either an academic class or an enrichment class. If taken as an academic class, there will be needed curriculum to purchase and homework that needs to be completed on the days not at school. While at school, there would then be various instruction offered and experiments to perform. If taken as a part of the 5th - 7th enrichment cycle, it will not include any homework, but will in that instance be intended not as an academic class, but as an enrichment only. 

SOCIAL STUDIES 
World Studies
7th - 8th grade World Studies (Thursday - Mr. Counts)
This class is designed to work with 7th and 8th grade students using the Bob Jones curriculum geared for that grade level. It will have homework assigned weekly and will count as a year of middle school Social Studies when completed.

5th - 6th History Class (Thursday - Mrs. Chandler)
This class is scheduled to to take on history at the 5th and 6th grade level. We are very excited to have Mrs. Carly Chandler taking on a role in teaching middle school level history and science on Thursday mornings.  

ENGLISH 
8th - 9th grade English (Tuesday - The Pinzurs)
