Our K-7 UCA Elementary Enrichment Program will offer four phases:
#1) Academic Enrichment
This section will last approximately 1 hour and will focus on a variety of academic enrichments subjects designed to enhance your child’s education regardless of what curriculum you use at home. We hope to split the academic classes into three grade levels this year: one class for K - 2nd grade, one class for 3rd - 4th grade, and one class for 5th - 6th grade. Also, for 5th and 6th graders, you can sign up for an optional history academic class which will run at 8:15 on Thursday mornings and will include homework throughout the week. This class is intended to be their social studies course for the year and does not come as part of the enrichment group of classes. Mrs. Chandler, who will teach the history class, will also offer a science class at 9:15 am. The science class will be part of the enrichment group for kids of this age, but may also be used as a course study if parents are willing to purchase the accompanying curriculum and do the homework at home.
#2) Elective Enrichment
This section of the program will last approximately 1 hour and will focus on various enrichment opportunities including such things as art, instrumentation, and creative writing.
This section will run 45 minutes. It is intended to give general instruction in music, as well as prepare kids for various singing events throughout the year, most notably at Christmas and the last day of school program. We plan to have an older elementary and a younger elementary choir this coming year.
#4) Physical Education
This section of the program is designed to enhance your child’s physical education and will include a variety of games and sports, played both indoors and outdoors. This section of the program will last 45 minutes.
The school day lasts about 4 hours for elementary students, including lunch. Parents can stay to help out if and when they desire, but there is no obligation to stay onsite during the school day. Here are the expectations for 2019-2020:
A) The Elementary Enrichment Program will run on Thursdays.
B) At the cooperative rate, the program will cost approximately $60 per month for the first student, plus a registration fee. The second elementary student will cost roughly $50, and so on. If you have students attending middle or high school, we will count them as participating students when figuring your elementary charges. See the tuition section for additional details. 5th - 7th grade students who are taking academic classes would be charged approximately $16 for each academic class in addition to their cost for the enrichment program.
C) The program will begin the last Thursday of August and run through the third Thursday in May.
Class space will be limited. To register, hit the registration button in the menu bar at the top of this web page, then fill out the information on the registration page. Please note that if this is your first time registering with UCA, we will need to schedule an interview with your family that can be conducted after you register. We will get in touch with you using the contact information that you put on the registration form. Please feel free to contact Jeremy Counts at 615-485-2116 if you need more information on this process.
Run weekly choir practices and prepare the junior choir for two to three annual performances including: the last day of school before Christmas, plus the last day of school before Summer break. Each performance would usually last about 15-30 minutes and could include speaking and acting, but usually includes at least three to five songs.
One hour per week of choir practice time plus time for selecting music and prep time.
$6 per student per month plus the ability to use the cooperative rates
Develop all students who are 9-12 years old and part of the junior choir in small group settings, preparing them for their junior convention in November. In most cases, each student should sing in a larger setting (i.e. the junior choir, which is usually developed by the junior choir director), and a smaller setting (i.e. duets, trios, and quartets which are assigned and developed by the Junior Convention Choral Director).
One hour of practice per week from the beginning of school in late August or early September until the completion of Junior Convention, usually in early to mid November.
$60 per month (for September, October, and November only) plus the ability to use the cooperative rates (all year)
At the elementary level, the art teacher would run weekly art classes for students who range from 3rd grade to 7th grade. For high school level art classes, the art teacher would run weekly one hour classes designed to help students be more effective in creating artwork for their annual student convention.
One hour per week of class time for each class taught plus the needed prep work.
$75 per month per elementary class
$10 per student per month for high school level classes
